Unwritten Rules by Pamela O'Rourke

5.0

Holy hell! What a book! Really enjoyed this, loved Nate and Mila and what a life of complication and heartbreak poor Nathaniel has endured in his life. Lord Hawethorne as he’s known doesn’t have the greatest relationship with his father, especially as it goes all wrong between them and the drama includes his ex girlfriend Zara. I must say I despise Zara, a strong word for a book character but I just can’t help how when I see her name in the story, I grind my teeth expecting the worst from her. But nearing the end, I can see that there is another side to her too.
Wetherby, butler and house staff has been a fixture at Hawethorne Hall for a long time. So when Nate brings Mila there when he goes to rescue her (Mila is his best friend, Henry’s little sister), he is unwell but didn’t know how ill he is. Mila transfers schools to where Nate teaches and they get on well, both are good friends and have always got on.
But it all started going wrong 10 months before.
Can everything be the same? Can they still be friends like they were before?
As with Pamela’s book before, Painted Truths, you really get a great picture of the characters, the description vivid and clear and I feel for them all. I think I must be getting soft as it’s another book I’ve shed a few tears too.
Now hurry up 2023 so I can get my hands on Broken Strings!!!
