In Such Good Company: Eleven Years of Laughter, Mayhem, and Fun in the Sandbox by Carol Burnett

4.0

If you laughed yourself silly at The Carol Burnett Show, this book is for you. Carol details the show from its inception to its ending. Great anecdotes about stars who appeared on her show and the excellent cast members who came to be part of it through pure serendipity. It is amazing the time, effort, and elbow grease that went into making this show because it could never be done today.

Carol is a true pioneer in comedy and a role model for any woman who aspires to make it in any field. She forged new paths that many comedic actresses and comediennes take for granted. Her work is as groundbreaking as Lucille Ball’s, and I really feel like each woman needs more recognition for their work. Two shining stars who cracked the glass ceiling in their own ways. Isn’t March Women’s History Month? Why aren’t these two ladies touted?

I enjoyed reliving some of the hilarious characters she portrayed, and my only complaint is that you need an accompanying video of every sketch she discusses to fully understand and enjoy it. The book makes me crave watching her show yet again, which you can do on MeTV (yes, I’m middle-aged and watch reruns from the 1970s and 1980s).
