Sadie by Courtney Summers

5.0

Easily one of my favorite books this year - and probably one of my favorites ever.

It's not very common to see YA mystery/thriller because the execution with the age demographic of the characters requires a balance of suspense and realism. The setup of Sadie does both of these things - and does it very well. The story in itself was gripping, filled with elements and twists uncovered by both Sadie and the podcast host.

I listened to Sadie on audiobook, which I highly recommend. The narration and production of the podcast brought this story to a new level and made you feel along with the characters. I've also found out that the podcast portion of the book is available online as well on many platforms, which I find fascinating. There's been quite a bit done here to make this story so real.

One note about the ending:
SpoilerMy past reviews show that I don't mind open endings, and while many are usually bothered by them I think it worked really well here. While listening to this audiobook I listened to a podcast about a case of missing children in my area, and while the results were implied, one family never got a true answer, only implications. For some families, they never get answers. And while this case is different, I think that the closed ending really added some realism to this case. In situations like these, cases are never tied up nicely, and I really think that leaving the ending as it was made this story feel as real as it could be.

Sadie was a gripping story, from beginning to end. If you're a fan of mystery/thrillers and everything that comes with them, I'd recommend picking this one up.
