Green Dot by Madeleine Gray

5.0

Green Dot follows Hera who is making bad decisions but is well aware and continues anyway. If this does not fit into the self-sabotage mid-twenties genre I don't know what else does. From that opening you might feel like that this book is an unpleasant read but it is far from it. I found this book so compulsively readable I finished it in one sitting. The tone of this book is blunt, at times savage and dripping with sarcasm. It is unapologetic and not subtle in the slightest. Hera acts on her impulses in a way I feel like most of us wish we could but know better not to. The only thing that drew me out of it was sometimes pop culture similes were thrown in which did not entirely work. I feel like Gray did this to make the book modern and relatable but they were jigsaw pieces which didn't entirely fit.

This book is like listening to your unhinged friend rant over a glass of wine at the end of a work week. Long live being a hot mess in your twenties.
