Snow Crash
by Neal Stephenson
I hated this book, and I don't understand the love for it. I get that Neal Stephenson was trying to make some metaphor about blah blah blah, but it just didn't work. Hiro Protagonist, bet he thought he was being really clever with that one, get it Hiro (like Hero) and Protagonist (real subtle), spends the good majority of the book conversing to a virtual library bot about history and lore and the other half explaining this to others. This book could have been way better if the editor had done a better job of cutting down extraneous exposition.
The female protagonist consistently gets ogled by grown men despite the fact that she is 15, and the book normalizes this distgustingness by having said 15 year old have sexual relations with a grown man.
Reading this book made me want to tear my hair out. I hated it. It tried too hard to be deep when it really is just hacker dude's gross dystopian fantasy. My favorite character was Fido, and he was barely in this book. Not the worst book I ever read, but it's up there. I'm sorry if you love this book, but this book didn't do it for me.
