From the start of this book, I had a suspicion on how this would end, and I can't say I'm not disappointed. While the first two books were dark, there is nothing like being in the head of someone slowly losing their morality. That made this book the darkest in the series for me. I kept hoping it would pay off like the other books, but as I reached the end, I liked this book less and less. I feel like this was too open-ended and that there was no payoff. That being said, I don't regret reading the series. The author writes amazingly, and it was very immersive.
