Without Merit by Colleen Hoover

4.0

Merit Voss lives in a home named Dollar Voss with her dad, cancer riddled mother, step mother, twin sister, and brother. She falls for a guy who is off limits and could create even more drama within her family. She is already holding too many secrets and one more might send her over the ledge.

I went into this book with slight hesitation because I heard some mixed reviews. I can definitely see where criticisms could be made to how some serious topics are represented in this book. But.. it is also a young adult book and the way the topics are brushed over reflects that... I would say the family drama is WILD. The drama was a cross between an episode of Jerry Springer and an episode of Dr. Phil.... very, very MESSY.

Once again, I think Colleen Hoover's mind is just unreal. The family dynamics she put into words, the daily marquee quotes, and the life lessons that somehow are relevant to any reader make this book one I will not forget any time soon. It might have been a bit of a dumpster fire but I loved watching it burn.
