She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan

4.0

So I'm going to be honest, when I started this I was suuuuper invested in the actual story/plot. I really liked the commentary and was interested in Zhu's story line but as it got more political and we got more perspectives I kinda just didn't care. That is until we got about halfway through a dynamic was introduced that I was super invested in which gave me a spark of interest. I'd always like the commentary, themes, and messaging but it took awhile for me to get into the story itself. By the end of this book, I was hooked. I imagine on a second read I will enjoy ALL of it as I am very invested in all of the characters.

I've finished book two/the series at this point and I'm in LOVE. Highly recommend this book. The idea of destiny, identity and survival.. among so much more. Absolute favorite series. I'm only giving this a 4 stars because I had to slog through the first half (even though I imagine my feeling will change the next time I read it).

Also I started reading this on the 10th, didn't get very far then put it down till the 19th where I read like half of it and then finished it the next morning.
