The Kremlin's Candidate by Jason Matthews

3.0

*Spoiler alert*
I listened to these books as quickly as I could check them out from the library. I loved the spy aspect but was really disappointed in the ending. I also found some plot holes that drove me crazy. Maybe it's just me but when I got to book 2 and Domi's mother is dead for no apparent reason (she wasn't necessary anymore I suppose) and hardly any mention of her father's death which started her to spying by being recruted by her uncle at his funeral. Then to hear Nate comment to her in book 2 that her mother had been dead for years threw me off. She wasn't dead she was being used as leverage to keep Domi spying for Russia. Perhaps years passed from 1-2 but still this bothered me how did she die? Was she sick? Wtf? Anyway and then book 3 and the mother is alive again in the prolog like everything was back to the way it was supposed to be in book 1 and there was no mention of her being dead at all. Why the big plot whole? Also book to she has conversations with Dead Sparrows giving her guidance book 3 nothing. Book 3 Domi mentioned something about will she ever tell Nate about the colors but he already knows about them in book 1. I realize this is a long book series and some things were bound to fall through the cracks but for some reason it bugs me. Other than that and the emotional rip your heart out ending it was an excellent read. Would have given it 5 stars if not for the ending.
