Hey, Hun: Sales, Sisterhood, Supremacy, and the Other Lies Behind Multilevel Marketing by Emily Lynn Paulson
5.0
If you’ve ever been part of an MLM, you need to read this book, especially if you feel any kind of shame or embarrassment about it. I am very open about my experiences as a former Beachbody (now BODi) hun. My story is not Emily’s, yet they are similar. I respect the hell out of her for having the courage to write this book. Emily openly talks about her privileges, her struggles, and gives the reader a behind the scenes glimpse into what life at the top tier of an MLM is really like.
I devoured this book; it confirmed many things that I already suspected when I started to rank advance and see behind the curtain at Beachbody. Emily discusses the predatory nature of MLMs, that many people don’t want to acknowledge because it sounds so SINISTER. Guess what? It is. Selling to people because of “pain points,” being asked to shame yourself and tell your darkest secrets IS NOT “SISTERHOOD.”
I also love that Emily doesn’t shy away from discussing white supremacy and the insidious ways that MLMs promote it. We are supposed to be thin, beautiful, and fuckable as she boldly states. I am HERE for THIS. Pick this book up, read it and share it. Thank you to Emily for my signed bookplate and fun goodies since I pre-ordered. Also to note: lots of references and resources to help people who have left an MLM cult. It’s hard, but it will be okay. Life will get better.
