When I Think of You
by Myah Ariel
I couldn’t put this book down but Lord Jesus, this book took me through it. It had so many ups and downs. I actually grew weary between the back and forth between Kaliyah and Danny. I understand where he was coming from, but I personally wouldn’t haven taken him back under the circumstances. At the very least, there should have been more groveling. This author did an amazing job at diving into the complexities or grief and the pitfalls a black woman has to navigate in Hollywood. I truly wanted more for Kaliyah. I knew it wasn’t going to happen but I would have loved to see her and Eric (the Director’s Assistant-I think that’s his name) work out. I loved the layers to this book but it definitely fell flat as a Romance. Danny wasn’t a strong enough MMC for me. Yes he was flawed but he didn’t like Kaliyah enough for me. She folded for him way too quick for me and also kind of got on my nerves towards the end. She unnecessarily stood on business when it didn’t count towards the end. She should have had that same energy after she lost her promised job the first time.
The writing was excellent. The character development was excellent. I just didn’t really like them together. Black women don’t deserve struggle love. I wanted to see her loved properly. Danny just was not it for me.
