We Need to Do Something by Max Booth III

5.0

This book was literal perfection.

Possibly my favourite book of this year so far, and definitely my favourite horror story of all time.

We Need to Do Something is the perfect mash-up of domestic horror, post-apocalyptic horror and the fear of the unknown. I devoured this book in one sitting as I was so engrossed in the story and sucked in to the claustrophobic atmosphere.

There's a lot of gore in this book so be prepared for that, and there's one scene that has genuinely disturbed me for life. I was telling my boyfriend about it and even he told me to stop talking about it as it was freaking him out!!

Watching the characters get slowly more and more desperate was so harrowing and tense, I never knew what was coming next and it definitely went darker than I expected.

I also loved the balance of revealing information to the reader vs. keeping the mystery alive. I was absolutely desperate to know more about what was going on outside the bathroom but sometimes knowing too much can ruin the horror for me, whereas this book kept me in suspense the whole way through and then hit me with a perfect ending.

I'm shocked that I can be so obsessed with something that only took a few hours to read but here we are. A new all time favourite of mine!
