Women of Good Fortune by Sophie Wan
4.0
Set in Shanghai (such a great backdrop for the story), Lulu gets the proposal dreams are made of, only it’s not a dream for her because she isn’t in love. She says “yes” because she’s supposed to…He comes from a prominent family, and money is security.
She tells her best friends her true feelings, but they need money, too, for each of their very different dreams. The determine that the wedding is the answer to all their problems. Well, the monetary gifts a wedding brings; that’s what they are after, and they devise a layered plan to obtain it. The heist is on.
Short chapters - yes! A unique plot that reminded me of Oceans 11 (probably the heist aspect). A fun, not too serious, vibe. A dash of romance. There’s good character development, too, and I really enjoyed each of them. Overall, it’s a fun book with great heart, and I never knew what to expect in the best of ways.
I received a gifted copy.
