A fantastically cool book-Not sure how to place this into one genre. It is non-fiction, talks about how chinese food came to America and helped shape it. But is also history of chinese food, and American inventions in chinese food (Chop Suey, General Tao chicken anyone?). Culture and Community? Food? History?
The author travelled all over America and Asia to learn and research. It all started when she got a newstory across her desk (she's a journalist in New York) about a huge number of people winning the four-state mega-lottery. Turns out they all chose their numbers from a fortune cookie fortune. Thus began her obsession with all things Chinese food. Highly recommend this one.
