The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak

emotional hopeful reflective medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? Yes
A gorgeous ode to connection - love, family, culture, nature, with the heartbreaking yet lovely backdrop of 1970s Cyprus (and modern London). That's putting it way too simply. I was immersed and reflecting the whole time. Hints of Braiding Sweetgrass and Romeo & Juliet and Homegoing but altogether unique.
