This book isn't something I would usually gravitate towards, however the Blurb drew me in!

The cover is very striking and would sit beautifully on any shelf, while the format of the book is something I haven't really come across before.

Each chapter has sections that jump between different places and characters, which explores the subject of that chapter.

Chapter 1 is 'Roots', and this sets the ground for us being introduced to the characters and their backgrounds.

The story revolves around one family and their history, all while navigating political and humanitarian events of the time.

I did find the format difficult to get into initially as while the split chapters offer a great structure, I felt sometimes the contents of the chapter to be overwhelming in that I had to remember who was who and who was where while reading.

This book is fascinating and covers lots of different topics, each imploring you to consider your own views and thoughts, which is something new!
