A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
3.0
At last I’ve finally finished this book!! I have to admit, at certain points the plot was a bit lost on me, but wow can this man write beautiful, invocative prose!
I felt nothing for the characters, they felt more like vessels for the story that actual characters. The central thing was the depiction of the french revolution, a double edged sword, both good and evil.
I really liked Dickens incredibly hard-hitting sarcasn when he is criticizing both the aristocracy and the revolutionaries. He has this dry, matter-of-fact way of describing the horrible things that people do, and makes them appear almost tragicomic.
3 stars for the writing alone, the plot was meh at best. Especially after just reading “the count of monte cristo” which has a similar premise, but the plot is much more intricate and well-crafted.
