The Choice by Nicholas Sparks

4.0

So... 3.5 stars on this one.

As with most of the Nicholas Sparks books I've read, I felt that I could pick up on his formula. You all know the one I'm talking about, the troubled one, the worldly one, the other one, and the romance. And because of that, at times, some of the story was lost on me I guess.

I have tried to read this one a few times and I'm either bored by the first few pages, or lose interest too quickly to continue reading the book, but this time was different (probably because they are making it a movie, and the book is always better). So, I gave this one another go, and for the most part I'm fairly happy I did.

To start, the whole start to the romance was an interesting one, and yes I realize the idea of cheating has been the start to a couple of Sparks' works, and I still don't agree with that aspect of the romance.

I loved the dog aspect to the novel! As a dog lover, when dogs are the part of a story, I generally can't keep myself from loving the dog! And the fact that the dogs were part of the reason the relationship came to be was interesting.

Later on in the novel, the pigeon... Did that remind anyone else of the swan from "The Wedding"? I felt that that whole aspect was something that was already used and though there was no connection Travis could make between Gabby and the bird, it still had those "I've done this before" feels to it.

And the ending was at the same time predictable, yet unpredictable, simply because it's Nicholas Sparks and there is usually some tragic ass thing that happens to the main couple of focus!

Overall, I did enjoy this book, and I would recommend it... I now only have 3 of his currently published fiction ton finish and I'll have read them all!
