House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland
5.0
This book… Wow.
I think I am a little in shock with how perfect this book lines up with what I wanted of it. It is a dark twisted fairy tale with two mysteries. Where is the eldest sister, Grey? What happened to the three sisters when they went missing as children?
Early on I had some theories and was delighted to find out that I was partially right, only it is much darker than I thought. Without giving any spoilers, I can say that this is the best representation of my favourite concept from local folklore (well I said no spoilers, so it has to be vague).
I loved Grey’s style but very quickly concluded that she is an awful person. It was a bit frustrating that Iris couldn’t see it. I was on the fence about their Mother too but to be fair, she wasn’t so bad that you couldn’t understand how she acted, considering the sad history. I adore Iris and Vivi! They feel like sisters with an unhealthy relationship but also complete characters with their own goals.
I’d love to read more within this universe, but I feel like the main part of these character’s stories are done. I hope that if there is a sequel, it’s from a different character’s perspective.
I was provided with a copy of House of Hollow in exchange for an honest review. All views expressed are my own.
