Binky to the Rescue by Ashley Spires

1.0

Audience: 2nd-7th graders who like cats and adventure stories, especially those who like fart jokes and lots of noise effects.

Appeal: While I was not impressed with this graphic novel, I can see that there could be great appeal for some kids who like silly stories with cats and adventure. Although the color palette is limited, the drawings are very well executed. There is great expression in Binky's face and body language. Personally, I found the constant sound effects to be distracting rather than adding to the story, but some kids may really enjoy them. The comics and graphic novels that I enjoy do not rely on sound effects to carry the story; they simply use them to enhance it.
