Divergent by Veronica Roth

I am shocked by how much I loved this novel. I read the first chapter ages ago, but it was not enough to make me want to continue reading just yet. I only read it now to get the people pressuring me off my back, and because my mother was forcing me to go see the movie with her. Once I started reading it, I could not get enough. I really, really wanted to hate it, but there was very few parts that made me roll my eyes. Sure, some scenes were very predictable, but there was enough that shocked me to keep me happy.
(Although no names are mentioned in the next paragraph, some people may still consider it a spoiler. Beware.)
One thing I re-learned with this book: because of cruel people like Joss Whedon, I am used to major characters dying, and almost expect it. Of two characters who died, one I labelled as dead when I first met him, and the other I predicted when she first entered the scene. But the second a secondary character dies (that was not obvious), I am all shaken up. Those are the deaths I cannot deal with. The character who I am thinking of for this book's death was not that huge of a deal within the words, but for me it was enough to put down the book for a couple of minutes.
