If You Still Recognise Me by Cynthia So

5.0

5 stars. I haven’t loved a YA contemporary in a very, very long time so I’m glad to finally get one that I absolutely adored. This book is incredibly sweet and wholesome. The characters are lovable as hell and I finished this book with the goofiest smile on my face. I adored it.

The writing is great and the pacing is steady throughout. I was never bored. I really liked the plot. Elsie has a crush on her online friend, Ada. She’s absolutely smitten with her. Then her former best friend, Joan, comes back into her life. I loved this. I did think Elsie’s crush was adorable and for a while I thought it was really going somewhere but as soon as Joan came back I was immediately Team Joan. I adored her character and the complicated history between her and Elsie. The romance in this was just so well done and so sweet and adorable. I also loved Elsie’s friends, Ritika and Felix. They were funny and had their own depth to them.

There’s so much that I loved about this book. The characters, the family aspect, the culture, the love of fandom culture and fan fiction, the romance. All of it. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more by Cynthia So in the future.
