The Stolen Heir by Holly Black

These two stars are owed completely to Wren’s character and Holly Black’s signature delicious prose but almost everything else disappoints.

Things I liked:

• Wren
• Physical character design
• Charming and twisted prose
• The tale of Mab, the hag and Mellith

Things I disliked:

• Lack of development in almost every other character, the majority of them felt one dimensional.
• Clumsy transitions between scenes and different plot points.
• Always style over substance never attempting to find balance but now both are weak.
