#1 the characters:
a) the heroine,Lada, was really bad-ass (borderline cruel sometimes). She decided to never follow her heart at a very young age,
b) her brother: he was hands down my favorite character. Sweet and sensitive Radu, was the complete opposite of Lada.
#2 the setting: the ottoman empire. I don't know about you but I haven't read many books about this era let alone ya ones. I loved it.
#3 the religion aspect: islam is not usually displayed under a very ehm positive light let's say. One of the main characters converted at some point from a christian to a muslim. It was so.. intimate. I was really touched.
So this is what you get: all the above blended with politics, intrigue, and romance.
