I Will Judge You by Your Bookshelf by Grant Snider
funny
lighthearted
fast-paced
3.0
Why I love reading illustrated books and was very excited to read this book:
1. It had the words 'bookshelf' with a beautiful picture of a reader with shelves of books on the cover - You had me right there!!
2. It's a great way to keep up with your reading goals in terms of numbers
3. You get to laugh and see some brilliant illustrations
Now, coming to why I gave this a 3 star - I dont think this has anything to do with the book or the author's capabilities - I think they deserve a 5 star there. This is more from my perspective, as a reader and here are my reasons:
1. Why the heck is this book not available internationally? And then, where it is available, why the hell is it so expensive?? The hardcover on Amazon India is priced at Rs 1600! So I decided to buy the kindle edition and even that was so expensive! I'm all for supporting writers and artists, but isnt Rs 600 a little too much for a kindle edition of an illustrated book?
2. I had thought that the book will talk about readers and their bookshelves - because - see title. But its actually not. Its not a bad thing that the author has talked about writing, and writers and poems and poets, but well, I was predominantly looking for bookish jokes.
3. I dont know if it would be better in the physical copy, but on my kindle (and I read it on the kindle app on my mac), the font for some of the chapters were really small and I had to squint really hard to read it. Maybe, they shouldnt release it in the kindle format if they cant do justice to the font size :)
