Breaking Time by Sasha Alsberg

1.0

Breaking Time by Sasha Alsberg is one of those random books I pick up out of boredom. I knew of this book since it was known as “Project Red” since I used to follow Sasha as a content creator a few years ago but oh boy, I wasn’t prepared for any of this. I think the 1 star rating says enough of how I feel about this book, but I still think it’s important to discuss it a little. Because I either discuss why I disliked this book or I might actually go insane because dear God was this book a ride–but not a fun one.

The main reason why I ended up disliking this book as much as I did is because it felt like a really flat Outlander fanfic. I mean, I haven’t read the Outlander books, but I’ve seen and read enough about them to know what they’re about and see the resemblance. Plus, can’t forget the references to the series in the manor Klara and her father own in Scotland. Another thing I didn’t like a single bit about this book was the fact that our main character Klara is a carbon copy of the author. Believe me, I followed her for more than enough years to notice how much the main character was like her (in literally almost everything) and it really bothered me. When she used to talk about this passion project of hers, the least I expected was for it to have a set of original characters (even if the story was a bit questionable) but no, we don’t get that. Instead, we get a self-insert Outlander fanfic. Last but not least, I just didn’t get the romance. I didn’t enjoy it, I didn’t feel it blossom between the characters, and I certainly couldn’t care less about it. And Callum’s character? He was interesting at first as he tried to get used to the new, modern world that surrounded him, but the moment he got obsessed with “a new purpose” and “protecting Klara” I lost all interest on him.

In the end, Breaking Time by Sasha Alsberg just wasn’t the book for me. I will admit that the author’s writing has improved a bit since her Zenith days, but that’s about the only positive thing I can say about this book. Oh, that and the fact that the story has a fast pace or else I wouldn’t have been able to finish this book at all. Overall, Breaking Time just felt flat, boring, and kind of unoriginal. I could only recommend this book if you know nothing about Sasha Alsberg as a content creator or else you’ll see all the connections and just wonder why you even bothered reading this like I did.
