The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

3.0

This book had so much potential but there's something about thriller authors that feel the need to deliver suspended belief level twists. I knew it was leading to theo being the stalker as soon as it unraveled the cheating story. And the only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because the writing voice is intriguing enough to want to finish even if you know where it's going.

The premise was interesting and I wanted more, a bigger twist to Alicia's actions but even the justification of her husband becoming her father didn't quite connect enough. While her father may have been a terrible person the author didn't flush that out enough to use this justification in the end, it was lazy and incomplete. It felt like a psychology student grasping at this extremely unlikely justification to her actions.

Further the justification of Theo in the end was cringey, he's happy he got caught but is also so noble that he never intended her to break but he's a psychotherapist that should understand massive trauma.

If you can suspend all logic and enjoy the writing style and voice this could be an ok book.
