this story was beautiful and captivating and difficult. even though I know it won't be for everyone, I'll widely recommend it because I feel like it's important. it wasn't what I would call a fun read; the depiction of addiction was harrowing. but, as a child of immigrants who grew up in the church, what drew me in were the conversations about faith and what it was like to grow up in that community (I felt particularly seen/attacked by the parts about being a self-righteous kid
