The Beggar King
by Oliver Pötzsch, Lee Chadeayne
This is a gritty read - hard to stomach at times. I feel I ought to get that warning in first before I recommend it. But if you can bear the descriptions (e.g torture, war, sewage, quite a lot of sewage) then this is masterful storytelling. It did at times remind me of 24, with the number of near-death experiences. Kiefer Sutherland, eat your heart out.
