There is so much to unpack in this book. I took a couple of days to let it settle hoping it would help. It didn’t. I want to start off by saying this one reminds me a lot of the first ZA book. It’s a lot of world building, couple setup, villain setup, and not a lot of plot/story. With that being said by the end of the book I felt invested, and I was a little shook that I didn’t have access to book two yet. One of my biggest gripes with the book was Drake. He reminds me of Eugene/Flynn from Tangled if he was much less PG and more rated R. His confidence/arrogance was grating. I really didn’t start liking him until towards the end with Kyra. He is very vain and has very little redeeming qualities until she comes in the picture.
Cass and Austyn I don’t have much to say on. Cass is broody, and Austyn seems to be his female counterpart in that sense. All four characters don’t get to be with each other until the end of the book which was the best part of the book for me.
If you are expecting spice, this book is a slowwwww burn. And by slow burn I mean I’m hoping for spice in book two.

While this was probably about a 3.3 for me, I do see potential in the series. I look forward to the next book now that the stage has been set, and plan to read it.
