Days Without End by Sebastian Barry

5.0

The writing in this book is absolutely poetic. Even though it covers so much death and despair over such a long period of time, it sounds so beautiful. I loved the main character/narrator. The story covers many years so it doesn’t linger too long in any one scene. I can imagine a different writer making this into an entire series, but Sebastian Barry cut it down to its skeleton, which works so well. The only thing I’m iffy about is the ending, which is very open ended. However, I do feel like it was the best way to end somehow.
