What happens?
Annie is a 26 year old widow; who from an inheritance from a relative which saw her inheriting a house has begun life finally independent from living off someone else. She is using the house as a half board house where she has tenants stay and they become more like friends and family something she seems desperate for.
She uses her alter-ego Madam Sybil as a way to get clients to help them improve their financial situations. This is how she meets her client Matthew Voss. She has helped him gain substantially in the stock market and so is shocked when it is reported that he has committed suicide and there is no trace of the money he had gained from her help. She cannot allow her client to be written off like that and so goes undercover to help find who killed him and find where the money has gone to. All the while fending off a loan shark from her late husband's past trying to steal her home from under her.
Final thoughts
I didn't really love this. It was a good read and it filled in the time but I can't say the story took hold of me.
I will say that this is written well, its probably up anyone's street that likes this period in time and likes mystery novels.
