ET: The Extra-Terrestrial by William Kotzwinkle

3.0

Movie novelizations are fun for what they can do to add to the story, explain motivations, or add “deleted scenes” to the source material. This adds so much inner dialogue and motivation that is interesting, like his being a space botanist, but the non-existent but frequently discussed relationship dynamic between the mom and ET felt so out of place? I’m left asking why. It didn’t really add to the story and adds such a bizarre undertone.
