Oona Out of Order by Margarita Montimore

4.0

I will admit, the first few pages had me rolling my eyes more than once due to the YA style writing, but the story, the conflict, the plot hooks and the reveals... it all hooked me and I finished the entire book in one sitting. You really just have to let yourself roll with it in this one. Some things will be cheesy, yes. But I think the writing matures a bit as Oona does. It’s a cute story and premise and it’s exactly what I needed coming off my first read through of Dune, alongside grad school, work, etc etc.

The book is definitely geared toward a younger audience (thinking late 20s and lower) and sometimes it misses the mark when speaking on social trends (hashtag truth... *audible groan*), but if you need a lighthearted read I’d highly recommend!

Oona could be infuriating at times, but I found that refreshing. The character has musical talent, good looks and an overflow of money, so the last thing I wanted was a character that didn’t have flaws that balanced it out.

The plot reveals actually caught me by surprise, and I couldn’t stop reading as things slowly pieced together.

Overall a charming read that I thoroughly enjoyed.
