The Good Part by Sophie Cousens

Lucy Young is 26, broke and sharing a flat with her friends, but dreaming of being a TV producer. After a crappy date, the sky opens, and with no money to get home, she seeks shelter in a small store with an old wishing machine in the back. The shop clerk hands her a coin and Lucy makes a wish - she wants to skip all the sucky stuff now and get to the good part in her life.

Upon waking the next day, Lucy has no recollection of getting home. Problem is, she’s not in her leaky flat, she’s in a fancy house, wearing fancy pajamas and there’s a man sleeping next to her. Realizing she skipped the last 16 years of her life, now 42, married to Sam, mother to 2 wonderful children, and working her dream TV job.

Everything seems perfect on the surface but a lot has changed in the 16 years Lucy missed. Will she want to go back and live her best and worst moments?

Talk about a pleasant surprise! This book was everything - funny, cute, sad, reflective and I loved every minute of it!!!

I truly laughed so many times, Felix was a hilarious smart little boy. Aliens and boy things and Pocket Day! ❤️ The writing in general was very witty, many silly conversations, even Mr. Finkley had some great lines! Lucy was a fantastic protagonist, I really connected with her and rooted for her success. It was very entertaining and relatable, sometimes you just need a croissant to treat yourself 🥐

When a book makes me cry, in a good way, because it’s so poignant and real, I will give it my highest rating. The relationships showcased here were so well done. Lucy and her husband Sam had such a great marriage, built on love and loss. It was a no brainer Lucy was falling in love with him all over again, I was too! The relationship she was building with her children was to die for! Again, Felix was such a little firecracker!! And lastly, the friendship Lucy had with all her school friends and how they grew up and now are adults together. Not to mention the friendships she created with Mr. Finkley and her coworkers.

Truly this is a romance but done slightly backwards. Showcasing love and learning that life is complicated and our future is not predestined.
