Was very dicey when I picked up Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus as I am not a big fan of sci-fic. Expected this one also to be along the same lines but, boy, I was so wrong. Lessons in Chemistry will force you to think about sexism, unfairness in society, discrimination and the inherent bias that's a part of the world that we live in. And between all this, there's a little love story that's blended just perfectly well.

And, what do we say about the main character, Elizabeth Zott. She's bold, quirky, headstrong, brave and brilliant. She's an absolute star who refuses to settle. The writing is witty and kept me engaged throughout.

Lessons in Chemistry is a beautifully crafted novel that seamlessly blends science, history, and personal drama. While the book takes on serious themes like religion,  misogyny, feminism, institutional sexism and self-worth, it never reads preachy. Whether or not you have an interest in science or historical fiction, this book is a compelling read from start to finish.
