The Sinner by Tess Gerritsen

3.0

I really enjoyed The Sinner. It was a refreshing change from the typical serial killer fare and gave us an insight into Maura Isle's past marriage. It was a lot lighter on action but that did not detract from the story, in fact it may have actually reflected the quite and peace of the convent and then highlighted the violent act that occured.

There were aspects I did not enjoy. Rizzoli's medical condition holds no appeal for me and I really feel like it changes the direction these novels might have headed in. I also did not enjoy the last chapter which felt tacked on and rushed as if the author wanted to get that event over with before tackling the next novel. I think if it had to happen I would have liked to see her familys involvement and the related stress/issues taking place over the course of a novel - all while Rizolli was dealing with a case of some kind.
