Esther shares her account of her young adult life where she is incredibly smart and talented (she even convinces a professor to give her an A just for showing up) to her time in a bell jar. She shares how she begins to fill empty, disconnected, and even hateful to the people around her. Some of her internal thoughts can be disturbing as she fights her battles within her own head.
There's times when she really starts to question even the people around her. Her story is heartbreaking that she struggles for so long. Esther desperately wanted to escape the social norms and feminism or her time. She wanted to be seen for her talent and not what she was expect to become. The Bell Jar shares some light into the asylums of the 50s and how even there she couldn't escape.
⚠️ This one may not be for everyone as there are some very sensitive topics in the book. ⚠️
