I was looking forward to reading this retelling of Jane Eyre in space, but even though the plot roughly follows the original, something was missing. Maybe because I already knew the story, but there just wasn't that same gothic feeling of dread that I associate with Jane Eyre.
I did enjoy the modernized main character who has a little more agency than the original. Maybe this is because it's a YA book, but I really wanted more details about her and her life instead of just the surface details.
Despite my gripes, still an enjoyable read. I finished the whole thing on a medium-length flight and for that, it was perfect.
