I cried at the happy ending, and isn’t that the best kind of book to read? The pacing is perfect, as there are moments when the characters rush headlong into ideas and the pages turn so quickly, and then there are moments of quiet reflection and long walks and the story meanders like a gentle stream. That gentleness weaves itself throughout the writing, like the author has taken care with the reader’s feelings, as much as the characters try to take care of their own as well. I so greatly appreciated the author not shying away from the realities of a post-WWI/pre-WWII society, while also presenting us with beautiful slice-of-life moments of lives lived with purpose. I loved meeting Mrs. Martha Hart, Miss Felicity Carr, Mr. Fabian Carr, Penelope, and of course, Miss April McVey, and am grateful to the author for her careful consideration and inclusion/representation in her story when matching up all couples successfully matched with their various life paths as a result of their interactions with True Minds, Mrs. Hart’s Marriage Bureau.
