This is a powerful and beautiful novel about loss and the ways it affects us. Jakob lost his family during WW2 and creates his own place in the world. Ben's parents lost everything in WW2 and his life is a reaction to their loss. Ms Michaels uses the idea of how things - objects, stories, people - are lost and found or rebuilt or recreated to create a story that is moving and thoughtful. Highly recommended.
