Book of Night by Holly Black
5.0
Although this story is slow, the worldbuilding isn’t all there and the first few chapters are a bit boring. The ending makes you realise that it wasn’t all that it seemed. The world is gruesome and dark, the magic is even darker with stolen shadows, altered shadows and the shadowless.
I loved Vince and his character was so intriguing with his mysterious backstory and the job that he does. I was not expecting that reveal at the end for who he actually is!
Charlie is a smart, cunning and fierce fmc who isn’t afraid to let the world burn if it means her and her sister survive.
I loved how we had chapters in the past in both Charlie’s and Vince’s pov, we got to see more of who they are and the story behind how they meet.
The slow burn was killing me! (Just the way I like it) and I cannot wait for the next book to watch the slow burn progress ever so slightly.
If you have patience, love a slow burn and complex stories then I would definitely recommend this book.
