The Younger Wife by Sally Hepworth

2.0

2.5 stars

I have slowly made my way through most of Hepworth's books ( I think I only have her newest one and a few of her earliest books left) and I have to say this has been my least favorite.... it just didn't fit the vibe for me compared to her other reads.

I did enjoy the writing: I always have. Interesting characters that had some depth to them. Secrets and lies. Lots and lots of drama with quite a few bits of psychological aspects thrown in there. So what happened?

Truly I was bored and annoyed the whole time. I wasn't thrilled (ha no pun intended) with the choices the characters were deciding on. This is mostly a mystery and not a thriller, so the marketing there was a bit off. I also feel like the topic of Domestic Abuse was not done well.... and while I understand where Hepworth was going with it, it just left a sour taste in my mouth. And don't get me started on the ending because.... *cue the eye roll*.

Anyways, this wasn't for me.

Read if you like:
- Family Drama trope
- Domestic Thriller
- Quick read
- Slow Burn
- Psychological Aspects
