Okay, I’m conflicted here. Am I the problem? Is it me? Because everyone hyped this book to filth, and yet, I’m over here rating it like a hater. Am I missing something?
Reading The Deep felt like watching a confusing show or movie where you love the plot. You like the first bit, then halfway through it takes a nosedive and gets confusing but you like what you're seeing so you keep going.
I’ll say this: the moments outside of the Trieste? Great stuff. Luke’s wife and son? Awesome. The drama with his mom? Even that stupid toy trunk? Obsessed. I would’ve definitely rated it higher if it was definitely more grounded and realistic while still solely focusing on the Gets disease.
People keep calling The Deep and The Troop Nick Cutter’s magnum opuses, But honestly? The Troop devoured this book. It didn’t just blow it out of the water; it sent it straight to the Mariana Trench.
