The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien
5.0

It's been probably twenty years since I last read these books and most of that twenty years has had this story rewritten by the movie trilogy. So it's pretty fascinating to read this again and feel and experience the differences.

The novel is just oddly structured. It loses some of the cosmic horror at certain points and then slaps it down hard at other times. What continues to impress me coming back to Tolkien after reading hundreds of other epic fantasy novels is just how he never loses track of the personal stories and conflicts.

But, yeah, I can't really be objective with this kind of stuff. So much of my life is caught up between these pages. So much of my childhood was spent right here.
