The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan
3.0

An enjoyable, hilariously fun read – though I do have quibbles with it. Being interested in Egyptology myself, I nearly face-palmed every time Sadie or Carter displayed ignorance about some basic fact. For no reason whatsoever, Amun is one of my favourite gods in the Egyptian pantheon, so I was disappointed that he was MIA in The Kane Chronicles. I was disappointed at how Set and Setne Khaemwaset were ultimately vilified (Set was a morally-grey character, Khaemwaset was pretty awesome), but that's my inner geek coming out.

I also really didn't like the resolution of the love triangle with Sadie-Walt-Anubis.
SpoilerIt felt a lot like cheating – "oh, I can't decide who to pair Sadie up with, so why don't I combine both of the dudes she's crushing on into one person?" – and I couldn't buy the whole "WE ARE SO SIMILAR, IT MAKES SENSE WE'RE NOW THE ONE GUY (EVEN THOUGH WE WERE REALLY DIFFERENT), AND THIS ISN'T REMOTELY WEIRD AT ALL" line at all. I also never really warmed to Walt and the whole Walt-Anubis combo dea; thing didn't really endear me to him more and also lessened some of Anubis' awesomeness. And I'm not saying that as a crazy shipper.
