The Woman in Me by Britney Spears

challenging dark fast-paced

4.5

To say this is one of the most anticipated memoirs would not be an understatement. Britney’s story is so harrowing and frightening that hearing it from her perspective is enough to make me so so mad. So angry that the world could do that to her. That bad people can have such an impact on innocent people. She was truly thrust into the spotlight at such a young age, became famous so quickly and basically grew up a bit too quickly. Had kids a bit too early. Had shitty relationships with shitty breakups. But worst of all, she had no support system and her family basically turned on her and controlled her which is insane like how can this be allowed really?! And the fact that it played out in the public eye is really really crazy. And it’s really like people knew but couldn’t help her at all.

The story aside, writing was well done and respectful. It really captured every bit perfectly. And though it was written by a ghost writer, which in this case I think is justified, I think her voice really shined through which really means that the ghost writer did a really good job. After reading this book though, I think she has so much of her issues to unpack with hopefully better professionals that she would choose for herself. And I really do wish her all the best.
