Absolutely loved this book which has everything you could imagine and more - loneliness, sadness, joy, fun, humour and of course beetles!
Margery Benson is a middle-aged spinster in 1950 who has experienced a lot of sadness but has a deep fascination and love for beetles. Enid Pretty is a young, seemingly shallow woman who is desperate to accompany Margery to the other side of the world to find a mysterious golden beetle.
The story is about the hunt, but mainly about the growth in their relationship and we learn more about both characters in flashbacks.
Beautifully written, the different locations were really brought to life by the author.
Without giving anything away, I also liked the ending and was pleased the author didn't feel the need to wrap everything up too neatly
