Gallant
Author: V.E. Schwab

Little Olivia Prior is left by her mother on the doorstep of a girls' school named Merilance when she is only two years old.

The only inheritance she has from her parents is her mother's former journal. The journal is a true dark whirlpool of thoughts her mother had. Olivia spends all her time deciphering the journal out of curiosity.

Gallant, the name keeps popping up everywhere in her mothers journal. Olivia has no idea what the name Gallant stands for except the fact that her mother warned her to stay far away from it.

Olivia feels alone on a daily basis she have the feeling that she doesn't belong anywhere. Joy fills her heart with warmth again when she receives an invitation from her uncle to come and live on his estate Gallant.

The name Gallant echoes through her mind. Keeping her mother warnings in her mind she doubts which path she need to choose. One thing is for sure,
being on her own for the rest of her life is not a future she envisions.

To comprehend the meaning of her mother's diary she has to travel through two worlds and ask herself in which world she wants to create her home in.

This was the very first book I read, written by V.E. Schwab. As a result, I did not know the author her writing style and it was quite an experience to find out. Gallant's hidden secrets made me struggle to stop reading. Strong characters, mystery and action it includes all the elements that i like to see bound together in a story.

Gallant is a dark fantasy book. The trigger warnings are: ghosts, murder, and haunted vibes.
