Because of Mr. Terupt
by Rob Buyea
A diverse group of fifth graders, grow into a community under the guidance of their unconvential teacher, Mr. Terupt. When disaster strikes, the children learn how much their teacher meant to them and heal old wounds among their families and each other.
While I felt that the characterization did not always ring true, some of the fifth graders' voices seemed too mature, I enjoyed this story of one teacher and how he influenced his class and community.
